Yeah I did it

Yeah I did it!! Yesterday was a big day for me. I finally learnt how to ride a bike.
Do you remember my post at the beginning of the year  New Year You ? One of my New year resolutions was to ride a bike.
Thank you  Transport for London   for my lesson. I can now join my little family and bike around the neighbourhood. ( I do have some serious practicing to do before I embark on the streets of London.)
It was one of things face the fear and do it anyway things. I hope it inspires you to do something to face the fear and do it anyway.

Postcards on my desk

Press office

Half car half clay

Hello the sun is shining at last in London. I had a great morning just wondering around Clerkenwell
Design week. I visited the three main exhibitions but my favorite one was the on housed at the Farmiloe in St johns  street. The exhibitions are more targeted to wards Architects, interior and product designers. It is nice to go and have a look at things out side your own design discipline.  Finding unexpected things like a car half made of clay. Things that caught my eye where the product and furniture designs of Quite different   I wanted the bird shelf it was so cute. I loved the furniture design of Dare studio. The fresh textile products of Imogen Heath who designs great home ware ranges for Heals in London.

The design week is still on if you want to catch it this afternoon. My old studio space is having an open weekend so you can stock up on some crafty goodies http://craftcentral.org.uk/

If your in London enjoy the sunny weather : ).

Designing Women Post War Textiles

Exhibition view

Hello I have been quiet this week I have been busy working in the studio. But I finally managed to go and visit the Fashion and Textile museum. I loved their current exhibitions.
Designing women Post war British Textiles. Featuring the work of Lucienne Day, Jacqueline Groag, Marian Mahler,Paulez Vezelay , Mary White and Mary Warren. Featuring  classic mid century textile designs. It's the type of design that has always had a big influence on me the colours and simple design. For me it was the first time I had actually seen the original designs on fabric so it was a surprise see that these designs came in a large scale. It was great o be able to take pictures although no flash so there not great but if you don't get to come to London to see the exhibition you can have a peak here. It was inspring to see the work of these great women designers. Who made great designs after the tough years of the 2nd World War bringing a fresh ideas , light and optimism to the table.

Mom Inc a good read

Image from Chronicle Books
Hello I just wanted to share a really good read a new publication  Mom Inc for all you mums out there. If your a Mom considering starting a creative business or are in business already and trying to work it all out the life balance of Mum ,wife and business owner. I am certainly in that category. Especially now Rocket is at school full time I want to make my precious hours I have free to work on my business are used to the max and not get myself into the frazzled !! zone.  Been down that route  that's why I put the brakes on and slowed downed last year Rocket's terrible twos, moving around and hemispheres it was time to just stop and think again. I think it's OK to say slow down and keep prospective of the important things in life I was lucky my husband supported me in this decision. Keeping balance is important and this book seems to be giving a few answers there. Great interviews by other creative Mums giving their Pearls of wisdom and funny stories you can identify with.
Although I am only bought this book on Kindle at Amazon UK site.  This week I am already really enjoying this book.
Created by two very talented mums who have brought the world other great creative business book resources which some of them are on my bookshelf
Creative Inc, Craft Inc,

Have a look at the authors websites they have some great tips in their blogs and lovely work.
Mateo Ilasco  and Cat Seto  The book is published by Chronicle books  I bought my kindle version here

Happy sunshine

Hello I thought I might share some of Rocket's art with you. We briefly had a day of warm sunshine yesterday.
Rocket was so happy ( must be the Sydney boy in him) that he had to paint a picture after school about happy sunshine and he also made a crazy rainbow. Sorry I am having a self indulgent moment here and being a proud mama sharing my nearly four year old sons art.

I hope it makes you as happy as it makes me.  Roll on the happy sunshine days .
