Hello blog and hello desk....It's been a while. The school holidays are finished this week but it doesn't mean I have been idle. I have been having a few afternoon art sessions with Rocket so we had fun creating art together. All a ploy to I have a chance to dip into my sketch book and catch up on projects.(crafty mama)
Here are a few projects I have been working on during the holidays and this week.
Lilla's boot camp studio school has had a break in March and back this April with a cool brief and it's very exciting. The brief is to design a poster and postcard for The Global Art Gathering in Brighton in the UK. One lucky boot camper will have their design published, paid for and a portfolio session with Lilla which is pretty neat.
If your interested in going to this event check out the details on the shiny new website MAKE ART THAT SELLS. It's a chance for creative artists and designers to meet up and get inspired to make art that sells.
As I work on each brief at boot camp there is always something new for me, a new challenge to take on. This current project is about lettering. New territory for me. I have always avoided graphics and technical layouts with the mind set ( I can't do this). This is my first time creating hand drawn lettering. I love it.. I used the little booklet about hand lettering from the current copy of Flow Magazine. I worked through the exercise and it really helped me just loosen up and break those mental barriers I had about graphic hand lettering. Designing this poster dose feel like jigsaw puzzle. So trying not feel overwhelmed I am just working through piece by piece . Show and tell next week. I think so far this is my take away from boot camp this week working through bit by bit and being open minded and surprise yourself.
Here are a few sketch book peaks of my lettering I have created this week.
Interested in The Global Art Gathering then check it out below.
More new territory was about creating stamp designs. Have you seen the current submission at Upper case magazine? Put a stamp your on it. There still a few days left of your would like to have a go.
My stamp was inspired by the qualities of vintage stamps from the 60's and 70's. In particular stamps celebrating the space race and travel. I really loved the simple layouts and overlay of colours and texture. Also the print quality on the paper. I couldn’t decide on a country so I thought it would be fun to make a stamp for the future. When one day we might travel and live on other planets. I decided on a universal stamp for Planet Earth.
Here are my two new territories I explored this week. Are you going try some new territories with your creative work next week?
Enjoy the weekend. X X
